I did a lot of research before buying this. Micca seems to be one of the only companies currently making a digital media player with the ability to handle essentially every relevant format.

It played every file type that I threw at it perfectly. The video quality is great, and it was easy to set up.

The UI is sloppy. There are unnecessary steps throughout the process. I'll still give it four stars for meeting my needs just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's not to love?, January 26, 2012

This review is from: Micca EP250 G2 1080p Network Digital Media Player with 7.1 HD-Audio, Fast LAN Network, 2.5" SATA Bay (Realtek 1185) (Electronics)
We bought a new TV for Christmas that promised video playback from a USB drive, but several of the videos we tried did not play, or played but had no sound. This situation was less than ideal.

I did the requisite amount of casual investigation and learned that Realtek 1185 based media players are currently a great choice. This was the least expensive one I could find. The other reviews were a bit off-putting, but it's Amazon fulfilled so I was okay with taking a chance.

This player did play everything that I had, and no error messages. I tried a variety of videos, music files, and photos, they were all handled without issue. This product has a big brother the EP350, which a quick email to the Micca support revealed that the only difference is the drive bay size, and enclosure material: this one is smaller, has a smaller drive bay, and is plastic. I planed to use external USB drives anyway so I chose this smaller less expensive model.

One really great... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A Excelent Multi-Player !!!, March 5, 2012

This review is from: Micca EP250 G2 1080p Network Digital Media Player with 7.1 HD-Audio, Fast LAN Network, 2.5" SATA Bay (Realtek 1185) (Electronics)
I was looking for a equipment to play many formats of video ... .rmvb, .mkv, .avi, .vob, etc., and I found it !

the presentation is good, but I think that Micca can be better because wait for a update of one har disk of 160 GB take 5 or 10 minutes, I imagine make a search/update of one har disk of 1 TB or more than this.

I wait that firmware include other options, like a browser (with latest update of flash), maybe include wireless USB-Keyboard for use with internet, etc.

Summary, It's very good but I wait updates.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roku Rocks with NetFlix and Playon, December 4, 2010
By
M. Jones (Seattle, Washington USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Roku XD 1080p Streaming Player (Electronics)
We were a longtime Dish Network customer paying $80 a month for video service. While we had no complaints about Dish, we decided this past summer to take the plunge into internet video to see if we could save some dollars. My family was shocked the day I unplugged all of the Dish receivers and sent them back to Dish Network. "What are we going to watch?" "What about my favorite shows?"

As a 3 HDTV family and not knowing the best hardware option to use, we decided to try a selection of devices. For our main living room TV, we purchased a Roku device. For the den, we used our Wii and for the master bedroom a Sony Blu Ray Internet DVD player.

For content, we have moved our NetFlix usage from DVDs in the mail to internet streaming. We also installed playon.tv on our PC for access to Hulu (primarily), CBS (Survivor and Amazing Race) and Comedy Channel. Both NetFlix and Playon streaming to all of the devices we use work fine. This includes the Roku via playon, despite... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Apple TV vs. Roku XD. Fight!, October 29, 2010
This review is from: Roku XD 1080p Streaming Player (Electronics)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
I recently bought the new Apple TV, but was curious how the Roku XD compared. After all, while I like the Apple TV, it's tied to the Apple ecosystem, for better or worse. Meanwhile the Roku offered a broader feature set, but not as much of an established brand as Apple.

Luckily, I was able to satisfy my curiosity by getting a Roku XD, and I thought my experiences and opinions might be useful for those shopping for such internet-streaming set top boxes.

---------------------------------------------------------
Quality/Content
---------------------------------------------------------

My first and biggest question was, "How does the quality compare?". 1080p capability is one of Roku's biggest selling points against Apple, because the Apple TV "only" streams 720p. What I found was that it was a... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, October 6, 2010

This review is from: Roku XD 1080p Streaming Player (Electronics)
One can make a good case that with Roku you really don't need cable or satellite TV. With a $10 monthly subscription to Netflix you can get more movies than you have time for over the internet at the time that you want to see them. I doubt that one movie that TCM shows is not available this way.

You can listen to almost any radio station in the country free, meeting your needs if you like any particular kind of music or listen to talk radio, sports, etc.

You can watch Youtube clips on your big TV as well and can send the sound to your stereo system, home theater nowadays.

There are lots of other specialized sites, both free and by subscription, that are available. I like Pub-D-Hub which has movies in the public domain for free, many are poor but others can be quite good, I had never seen a picture with legendary Lillian Gish before.

Roku is a winner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple, November 20, 2010
By
so-cal "so-cal" (Orange County California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NETGEAR Roku XD Player NTV250 (Electronics)
My ultimate goal is to rid myself of subscription cable television! My cable provider does not offer a la carte pricing, therefore I must subscribe to literally 100's of channels to get the roughly four HD channels I want (at almost $100 a month). So I decided to give this a try and see if it fits my needs, and so far, so good.

On my connection(s):
1. Via Ethernet to home router.
2. Via HDMI to 1080p LCD.

Setup took less than ten minutes to complete, including hardware registration with ROKU and Amazon Video on Demand. I was pleasantly surprised how fast the player found my account at Amazon and all of my prior video purchases were waiting to be viewed on the player. The remote is simple with only twelve buttons.

On viewing content, the player buffered very quickly and began playing almost immediately. There is quite a bit of free content that can be viewed as well, and was easy to get via the on-screen guide, etc. Will end this review... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Lousy Service from Netgear, May 21, 2011
This review is from: NETGEAR Roku XD Player NTV250 (Electronics)
I bought two of these Netgear Roku's from Radio Shack & installed both of them (easy installation) & I had a Netflix account so I started watching instant movies & it was great but one day I was watching one of my Roku's & we had a power blip (without power for 8 or 10 seconds)& when the power came back on my Netgear Roku would no longer work, I called Roku & they tried to help me get it fixed..all it needed was a new code number & it would not get a new code, so I was turned over to Netgear & the only way I could get a new code number was to pay $69.95 for 6 months extended warranty & they also offered me 30 minutes of help for $40.00, I had these Roku's for about 6 months & Netgear warranty was good for 90 days, I refused to pay for a new code, I don't consider it to be fair to me..I do consider it to be a scam by Netgear...

4.0 out of 5 stars good for Netflix, December 21, 2010
This review is from: NETGEAR Roku XD Player NTV250 (Electronics)
I purchased this Netgear branded Roku mainly as my local BestBuy had it for similar price as here, but also I know that the distance I have to connect over is long and I use a Netgear N router, understanding that there were some negative reviews of the device here. Signal has to go thru several walls- 2 outside walls and one inside wall and prolly 50-60 feet distance as the crow flies. Using wpa encryption I had no problem whatsoever connecting with the netgear router. Setup for the various channels mostly painless but still requires use of a PC logged into my various content sites to enter a code to enable the device to recieve streaming content, similar to how you might configure your wii to get netflix content. Noticing that the placement of the device is pretty important for my signal strength as I am not close to router and putting it in the cabinet with the tv and close to floor significantly weakens connectivity, I have it on top of a small end-table near tv and on...
