5.0 out of 5 stars Feature packed device, October 14, 2011
By
Tank (Middletown Springs, VT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Netgear NeoTV Streaming Player (NTV200) (Personal Computers)
First thing first, I was part of the beta test program for this device and I received this device for free for testing purposes. My thoughts and opinion on this device are strictly my own based on my needs and use of the device and are non biased.

Now that that is out of the way I will say this is a great little feature packed device. It is packaged in a small form factor roughly 4X4 or 5X5 inches in size, has a HDMI connection as well as a port for Ethernet hookup. It's setup is rather fast and effortless, once you turn the device on for the first time you go through a series of screens to help you get the best streaming capabilities out of the device. One thing I like is that no matter what resolution your TV has, this device can output in any of them. I found that AUTO resolution worked best and this is great if you are unsure of the resolution of your TV as it will set it automatically for you. You can even setup the internet while on these main screens, you can choose... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars NTV200 Great except for Netflix, October 28, 2011
This review is from: Netgear NeoTV Streaming Player (NTV200) (Personal Computers)
The NTV200 is exactly what I was looking for in a media player except for one large issue that I have not been able to resolve. The set up and connection to my router and TV were easy and went as I expected. Pandora, VUDU, UTube, all work as advertised. However I bought this unit primarily to stream from Netflix and I have not been able to resolve the problems with movie playback. I can select Netflix from the Home page and it loads normally. I can search for movies and vue the que as well. When I select a title to play however, I get a pixilated green screen, audio appears normal. I called Netgear who told me this was a Netflix problem. They had me change the hdmi cord and restart the cable modem and router to no avail. They told me the problem was with Netgear not them and recommended I call Roku who may actually make the box. Roku went through some of the same steps but was unfamiliar with the product and sent me back to Netgear. Netgear again told me it was a Netflix... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great online player, November 9, 2011
This review is from: Netgear NeoTV Streaming Player (NTV200) (Personal Computers)
NETGEAR NTV Streaming Player (NTV200)

When you first look at the device, you will notice how small it is, making this device able to be placed just about anywhere. Installation is very simple just plug in the power adapter, the HDMI cable between the device and TV, and decide if you want it connected to the internet, wired or wireless. Easy on-screen prompts guide you effortlessly through the installation. Once installed, you will find many applications to chose from. For instance Netflix, which I found enjoyable being able to full access without having to place anything in my Queue. VUDU with very affordable HD rentals, which the device automatically adjusts the quality to your service provider. This device allows access to many other applications as YouTube, Facebook and so many others, that would be impossible to list every one. Updates when needed, display on the screen, and are a simple two button operation.
For the price you can't go wrong with this attractive... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great so far!!!, September 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Micca EP600 G2 1080P Full-HD Digital Media Player with 3D Playback, 7.1 HD-Audio, Gigabit LAN Network (Realtek 1186) (Electronics)
I purchased this player with a very specific need in mind. I wanted to play my ripped movie collection, HD home movies, pictures and music through my home entertainment system. I wanted to do this without having my computer on all the time. This player, along with a Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router WNDR3700 and a 2TB external USB drive allowed me to accomplish this.

I had previously owned (and still do own) the Micca MPLAY-HD 1080p Full-HD Digital Media Player and was very happy with it. It played every media type I threw at it. It really was a wonderful device. The drawback with it came when I wanted to load more content. I would have to remove the external... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, December 29, 2011

This review is from: Micca EP600 G2 1080P Full-HD Digital Media Player with 3D Playback, 7.1 HD-Audio, Gigabit LAN Network (Realtek 1186) (Electronics)
This is my first and perhaps only review i'll be doing on amazon. Because the market for digital media players is so convulted, its a hard choice to pick one. I settled on this one and have been using it for over a month with ZERO problems. Item arrived on time, brand new, and works wonderfully. All the people who write bad reviews may have valid points, but so far my experience with this player has been superb. It's quite, remote works very well, plays GREAT quality videos (assuming the videos themselves are in a good format)...
Please note though, this product does NOT come with an HDMI cable to connect to TV, so make sure you pick one up (sell on amazon for around 3 bucks, or higher quality ones for around 8). All I wanted this for was to play different file formats of videos, and on that note, it works very well.

I just got this today and hooked it up to my gigabit Ethernet system and tested it with my extensive personal video collection. Oddly, it performed very well with AVCHD material but could not handle old fashioned Quicktime format MOV files. With these it sometimes didn't work at all, or if it did, it sputtered, stopped and started. Since these old videos form a large part of my collection, I have reluctantly returned it.

5.0 out of 5 stars So tiny, so simple, August 2, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Roku 2 HD Streaming Player (Electronics)
Why Roku:
I have been looking at getting a Roku for a few months now and when I saw that the Roku 2 had just been released, I figured it was time to take action. I've never owned a streaming video box like the Roku before, but I have a Wii I use to watch Netflix and my parents have an Apple TV that I've watched Netflix and other video on. I was originally planing to get an Apple TV, but decided on the Roku for a few reasons. First, the Apple TV requires a HD TV, which I don't have, whereas the Roku can handle both a regular TV and HD (nice if I upgrade :). Second, as much as I love Apple products, I wanted a device that had more streaming selection. Specifically, a device that had a Crunchyroll channel. And finally, the Roku is just the least expensive device of this kind.

Setup:
So I got my Roku yesterday and had it set up in about 10 minutes. It would have been quicker if I had been using a computer instead of an iPad. The Roku itself is TINY. A little taller... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Roku Rocks! And still Does!!!! 12-31-2011 Update, July 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Roku 2 HD Streaming Player (Electronics)
Bye Bye Cable! Just got my first Roku Box today, although we have been streaming TV (PS3 and Wii) for awhile now. I linked my Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu Plus accounts to the box in a matter of minutes. Set up was easy and the free content is excellent! The box itself is tiny you dont even notice it next to the TV. We dumped our cable provider a few months ago and got by with just streaming through the Wii and PS3, but with the Roku Boxes there is a TON more content and I dont really care for the Wii platform/dashboard. The box is about 25 feet away from my wireless router and signal is full. Im very happy with this purchase and will be ordering 2-3 more for the rest of the TVs in the house.

*******UPDATE*******
12-31-2011
I now have 2 of these little boxes one connected to a HD TV and one connected to my old 27 inch CRT TV. I'm just as impressed today as I was when I got my first one back in August. They at Roku have continued to add content both... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Simple to use, but doesn't live up to the original, October 3, 2011

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
I have an original Roku Netflix player. I swapped it out for this new Roku2 HD, and was sorely disappointed!

Pros:
- It's small. Like really small. About half the size of the original, and a bit bigger than a couple decks of cards.
- Comes with HDMI. Not a bunch of inputs/outputs to confuse unsophisticated users.
- Extremely easy to set up. Head to the website, and 2 minutes later, you're ready to go.
- Sets up via wireless.

Cons:
- No indicator showing the current picture quality level
- The picture quality was very, very, very poor. I swapped the old and new ones a few times, and consistently got a much, much lower quality and lower bandwidth picture from the new one.

Overall, I can't recommend this due to the picture quality issues. This unit uses dynamic bandwidth, so I couldn't determine if it was messed up due to this unit's design, or if it was just drawing poor bandwidth. An item like this is pointless if every... Read more
